JOB DESCRIPTION

** General Responsibilities ● To provide practical, clerical and administrative support to the Science Department ● To ensure all facilities, materials and substances are maintained according to international Safety Standards ● To ensure learning activities within the Science Department are conducted in a safe manner ● To act as lead to the Science Technician team ● To form a key member of the Campus Health & Safety team ● To maintain systems, processes and routines that support a safe learning and working environment for the Secondary Campus. ** Main Duties - Senior Laboratory Technician: - People: ● Organising and coordinating the technical support team to the Science department, including: assisting in practical classes, carrying out demonstrations, preparing resources, assembling apparatus ● Managing, monitoring performance and supervising the lab technician team ● Attend staff meetings, and other school events as deemed appropriate ● Be actively involved in an evaluation process and in-service training aimed at improving performance ● Support the Head of Department in any special projects. ● Support Individual students in design and implementation of practical experiments ● To take pride in the department and seek to guide and shape improvements in practice in partnership with the department. ● Performing other duties given by Head of Science Department/Teachers of Science - Processes: ● Coordinating an effective requisitions system for the Science department ● Conducting and writing risk assessments for technician activities ● Organising regular maintenance and checks of fume cupboards, pressure cookers, first aid kits, electrical equipment, etc. ● Ensuring all processes are in accordance with both UK/CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines ● Maintaining an effective waste management system in accordance with CLEAPSS and COSHH/HSE ● Compiling local purchase orders and arranging for the timely delivery of resources to lessons ● Organising annual requisition process [local and overseas] ● Issuing & retrieving of textbooks to & from students and academic staff - Facilities: ● Organising, storing and checking the condition of chemicals and equipment ● Maintaining an inventory of equipment and consumables in the department ● Monitor and review the status of the inventory to ensure appropriate stock levels maintained ● Coordinating the repairing, design, construction and modification of apparatus ● Ensuring all laboratories and prep rooms are maintained, clean, organised, and well-stocked - Secondary Campus Health and Safety Officer: ● Be a point of contact for all staff and students on matters relating to Health and Safety ● Conduct regular site inspections with key stakeholders, ● Produce inspection evaluation checklists and submit findings to SLT and NAE via online H&S portal ● Conduct monitoring of Air Quality and initiate actions in accordance with policy ● Write and review risks assessments as required ● Conduct staff safety briefings as required in liaison with the Deputy Head (W&G) ● Monitor accident and health and safety issue responses ● Conduct internal audits in preparation for group and/or external audits ● Promote a positive health and safety culture across the Secondary Campus - Child Protection: Ensure Safeguarding of all students by: ● Passing all Child Protection issues onto the Designated Senior Person for Child Protection. - Personal Development: ▪ Continual development through the identification and implementation of your own Professional Review and Development needs to include: - Continually striving to improve performance; - Setting and working towards targets with the College and University Guidance Senior Counsellor, linked to the department and school development plan;

JOB REQUIREMENTS

In addition to an appropriate degree in a science related discipline and prior professional experience: ● Knowledge of health and safety legislation and international best practice ● High levels of English (spoken and written) ● Developed ICT skills ● Organisational and communication skills ● Be approachable, warm, resilient and good humoured ● Be proactive and seek guidance where necessary ● Prefer to expats, however, local candidates are acceptable with perfect English and relevant experiences ● Salary: negotiation
